Jean Sebastien Mathon is the founder and creative director of Mathon, a fashion brand rooted in culture, craftsmanship, and storytelling. His passion for fashion began at the age of 12, driven by a desire to create garments that go beyond aesthetics—using clothing as a medium to express identity, heritage, and human connection.
Born and raised in Haiti, Jean Sebastien grew up in a household shaped by resilience, generosity, and purpose. Though not financially wealthy, his family was rich in values. Alongside his mother, he participated in acts of charity, learning early that meaningful creation comes from intention rather than excess.
His mother, an entrepreneur and school owner, introduced him to sewing, craftsmanship, and independence, shaping his philosophy of resilience and self-belief. Growing up with a brother who is a photographer and writing editor sharpened his sense of visual language and narrative, while a father involved in politics exposed him to leadership and social awareness.
An active athlete, Jean Sebastien played basketball, soccer, and volleyball, gaining discipline and a deep understanding of human movement and connection—elements that remain central to his design approach.
After moving to the United States in 2016, he earned a degree in Public Administration and works across disciplines as a photographer, videographer, and culinary artist. These experiences shape Mathon into a brand that merges heritage with modern luxury—creating not just clothing, but cultural dialogue rooted in empathy and purpose.

Mathon was created from a deep passion for fashion and the art of being well put together. It is rooted in the belief that style is not only about clothing, but about presence, confidence, and identity.
The mission of Mathon is to explore and elevate a side of Haitian fashion that remains underrepresented and insufficiently seen. By reimagining culturally significant textiles such as Karabela (Chambray), the brand bridges tradition with modern luxury—bringing refinement, versatility, and contemporary elegance to fabrics deeply rooted in Haitian history.
Mathon responds to a real need within the Haitian community: the need for clothing that reflects heritage while meeting global standards of quality, design, and sophistication. At the same time, the brand extends beyond borders, positioning Haitian craftsmanship on an international scale through luxurious finishes, thoughtful construction, and modern silhouettes.
More than a fashion label, Mathon exists to remind the world of Haitian history, resilience, and creative capability. It challenges outdated narratives and affirms what Haiti has always been capable of—excellence, innovation, and cultural depth—expressed through fashion.
